There is a tree that sits right outside our balcony. It has never had any leaves since I have lived here and mostly just serves as a resting place for many birds. For months now I have watched a section of this tree as a decent sized branch snapped off and is lodged within other branches. I often wonder when, or if, the broken branch will dislodge and fall down. Honestly, I have also considered climbing the unstable tree and removing the branch because I don’t think it’s branches will ever untangle from the connected branches.
It got me thinking, when does a stick become a branch? When does a branch become reduced to a stick? When a branch breaks away from the tree, it becomes a stick. We become something greater than ourselves when we are connected. When we break away, when we disconnect, we change.
